Below is a minute description on the process.
Needle-Felting is...
Cleaned and carded (combed) wool from sheep which has been carefully layered atop a piece of foam, then poked thousands of times with a hand-held set of special needles that have tiny downward-pointing barbs near their tips, to produce a flat or 3-dimensional piece which is, after felting has been completed, lifted off of the foam, ready for the finishing touches.
