Close-up of the embedding process

What is This and How is it Done?
Very much like the paintings we are all familiar with, the paintings made by Christina take time, skill and an intense creative passion to communicate ideas and moods with others. These paintings use wool instead of paint and barbed needles instead of paint brushes.

Christina begins with thumbnail sketches in her notebooks based on inspirations from every day life, literature, nature and self contemplation. The most interesting thumbnails then become sketches, then are narrowed down to drawings, with measurements, then the drawings are colored in with coloring pencil.

Then Christina starts the actual making process. The wool is locally sourced and dyed by Christina, according to the colors that will be needed in the painting. It can take a kilo(2lbs) or more of wool for a large piece!  The image will be 'sketched' out on the blank canvas/substrate, based on the final drawing. The dyed wool colors are blended and placed in layers over the sketch, each layer being embedded into the layer below, creating the works shown here.
